emptiness and harmony

Your result for What Spice Are You Test...

You are Sage!

0% Habanero, 20% Sage, 10% Thyme, 10% Ginger, 20% Garlic, 20% Curry, 20% Cinnamon and 0% Oregano!

Sage is a very classic herb. You tend to use intelligence in making decisions instead of brute force.

You are the type of person that people want to get to know and be friends with. You don't feel as if you have to impress people because you tend to be very self assured.

At a party you would be happy to just sit in the corner and watch people, or perhaps find someone to have an intelligent conversation with.

You prefer to think before you act, as you are rather analytical. You can be both dazzling and graceful. People tend to notice you without you trying to make it happen.

You may not be religious, but you are very spiritual. You desire relationships that last rather then passing ones.

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List 5 songs you like that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions, if you so wish.

[info]amarynth gave me T.

1. Leonard Cohen's Take this Waltz. It's based on a poem by tragickal Spanish dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca, whom Cohen rated so much that he named his daughter Lorca.

2. Bike's Take in the Sun. The eponymous album was a prominent part of the soundtrack to my cleaning the first flat M and I had together alone, so's to make it habitable. Happy Summer times.

3. Bob Dylan's Tangled Up in Blue. Lyrics are here. Dylan is a kick-arse storyteller. 'Nuff said.

4. Bob Mould's Trade. This song lives in the same file in my mind as The Pet Shop Boys' Rent. It just does.

5. The Mint Chicks' This is your Last Chance to be Famous, my Love. How can you go past a title like that?</lj>

Today, I walked down the hill to Island Bay, pranced around naked in front of a projector screen for an hour and a half while [info]cactus_cat took photos, and walked home. Later I shall finish doing the dishes and make some dinner and do some sewing.

As the song says, I'm extremely pleased with myself. Although "extremely" may be overstating it a bit.

Anyway, have the answers to the unguessed TV show quotes. )

5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search or other search functions.

1. Yes, goo-goo indeed. I have a lollipop and I have no control over my urinary functions. I am, in fact, an infant. And I know you think I'm Lord Albermal, but I am in fact a little baby. With a beard. Yes, goo-goo, gaa-gaa. And Madam, may I tell you I've been a very naughty baby. Phil Jupitus in QI, guessed by [info]inner_starfish

That meme again

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

[info]inner_starfish picked

atypical bikers
I'm talking about sexy tallish young things with floppy hair and a broad vocabulary who happen to like getting around on motorcycles. I think your know who I'm talking about here, [info]inner_starfish and others of similar good taste and sagacity. Also, my partner in his younger days fitted this description, as does my sister's boyfriend. Good taste, yo.

confusion for comic effect
Sometimes people are just so banal that you have to unleash the tiger of semi-provoked surrealism in daily life, a la Stephen Fry, John Cleese, et al. It’s when you say something nonsensical which is silly enough to make you or your interlocutor or both laugh.

did i mention misanthropy?
I was feeling particularly misanthropic whilst updating my interests list. Grrr, &c.

ephemeral art
Art that isn’t designed to endure over time, like sand mandalas and dance. I likes it.

georg trakl
German expressionist poet, into drugs and severely scarred by war. I like his poems because they mess with normal sentence structure, tend towards the surreal, and convey lush and almost hallucinatory imagery.

having too many interests
That’s a fairly naff interest, I don’t know what I was thinking. I was probably suffering from insomnia when I added it.

things called eric
Y’know Monty Python’s Fish License sketch, right? I can’t come across anyone or anything called Eric now without enquiring as to whether it has a license.

ALSO: I am downloading QI E4 yays.

put out the fire and don't look past my shoulder

I feel rubbish. Sore, unco-ordinated, can't spell. And my hamstrings are busted.

However, I was introduced to The Thick of It last night, which is insanely funny. It's like the writers of The Games took the concept of Yes, Minister and had it filmed by the guys from The Office.

Anyway, here's a meme. Ganked from [info]_hedgewytch_. Can't resist a challenge...

Summarize 10 of your fandoms in one sentence, then see who on your friends' list can guess each fandom.

1. Their travelling hierarchy's Greek to me.

2. Pretty boys with guns fight uncomfortable infection.

3. Sexy hats, drugs, and obsevation are the elements.

4. Speed is a drug.

5. Pain is a bloke's best friend.

6. Stupid, nasty, and pedantic.

7. So much badness in an ancient learned town.

8. So much badness in a perfectly normal village.

9. Tall, ridiculous, and too much smoking.

10. Bound together by service and need.

That was hard, I'm impressed I could come up with 10. They won't be easy to guess either, as I tend towards the obscure both in fandom and expression.

And now, the lack of news.

My thighs? BROKEN, I tells ya.

Was angry at work on Monday because even though boss is away, I keep being reminded of his prannetism. Yesterday was better though. Had afternoon coffee with remaining colleagues. It was lovely and relaxed.

Applied for three jobs so far this week, and have had three rejection letters from jobs I'd applied for previously. Hmmm.

Yay=I get to perform my sword solo on Sunday at a school fundraiser thing, and probably get to perform at a Dec/Jan gig as well. This makes me happy.

And now, the meme for which I was tagged by [info]cactus_cat:

What would you do if you won 3 million dollars? List at least 3 things you would do with the money, and tag at least 3 people on your friends list to ask them to do the same!

1. Pay off all our stupid debts.

2. Do another Europe holiday, including Iceland.

3. Buy a house. In the Aro Valley, probably.

Taggage: [info]_hedgewytch_, [info]anazri, [info]ladybella. Give or take whoever can be bothered.

Love for hate

Having just done a nasty rant in [info]wellingtonnz, I now present the Art Meme, as ganked from [info]cactus_cat:

The first five people to respond to this post, will get some form of art, by me, for/about them. I make no guarantees about quality or type (although you can make requests), but I will assure that I will give it good effort and that the art will be individual to you, so whatever I make it will be yours, designed for you.

The only catch is that, as with most memes, if you sign up, you have to put this in your own journal as well. It'd be nice if you posted this too - I'd like to receive some art!

Meme of DOOOOOM.

Inspired by [info]nicodeimus's recent efforts, I am finally tackling the Fictional Harem Meme. I'm supposed to think of 10, aren't I? This is hard.

1. Pippi Longstocking. NOT underage Pippi, grown-up-a-bit Pippi. I can't go past a girl with quirky dress sense. And her own house.

2. Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird - the book, not the movie (although, Gregory Peck is not to be sneezed at. I just haven't seen the movie). I had quite a crush on him when I was reading it in 5th form. Can't remember exactly why, probably an extension of my history teacher/librarian fetish.

3. Rupert Giles from Buffy. Like I said to [info]skyblue_reverie, I can't resist an older British bloke who can sing and speak Latin.

4. Velma from Scooby Doo. Curvy geek babe with glasses. 'Nuff said.

5. Jane from American Beauty. Teh snark!

6. Gregory House from House, ditto.

7. Ford Prefect from Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy. He's insane and adventurous, I like that in a man.

8. Illya Kuryakin from The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. I can ignore the shortness for the sexy Russianness, turtlenecks and pretty hair.

9. Agent 99 from Get Smart. This is another one dredged up from my childhood, I can't really remember why. I think she was pretty and funny.

10. Pasha from Dr. Zhivago (the movie, haven't read the book). I seem to have a thing about serious, blond, faux Russians with glasses *shrugs*.

I got taggged!

Go here and look through random quotations until you find 5 that you think reflect who you are or what you believe. Repost in your journal and tag 5 friends.

Could we change our attitude, we should not only see life differently, but life itself would come to be different. Life would undergo a change of appearance because we ourselves had undergone a change in attitude.
-Katherine Mansfield (1888 - 1923)

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
-Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)

A critic is a man who knows the way but can't drive the car.
-Kenneth Tynan

To know all is not to forgive all. It is to despise everybody.
-Quentin Crisp

Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
-Carl Zwanzig

Usual tag policy. Thanks to [info]inner_starfish.

NOthing but BAbY FoXes.

The Actual Entry:

I have a headache so I'm staying home. Headache is a bit of a pisser because I don't think it would take kindly to practising zills, which I really want to do, now that I've found some nifty little patterns over here and have ripped Helm's Tribal Dance, Tribal Drums to my computer so I can zill along.

So I'm going to try and finish my long-overdue fic for [info]nicodeimus, which has already stretched to 14 pages without the intervention of anything resembling a plot. And I'm going to try and go to the gym, because despite torturing my quads and calves yesterday, they don't hurt enough. And maybe I'll go do some sewing at the Ancestral Pile. Hey, it's all interesting to me!

While I'm rambling, thanks [info]amarynth for the CD I'm listening to, I am liking it. It doesn't have the OMGWTF quality of their first album, but it's some Good Music. With some pretty lyrics.

Finally saw Casablanca last night - OMG brilliant, &c. I am valiantly resisting to urge to seek Rick/Sam or Rick/Louis fic. Because That Would Be Wrong.

I did manage to get to class this morning, mainly because M bribed me out of bed with a promise of lunch that he had to retract due to an Immovable Meeting. Despite the headache, class was interesting - it was the last of the first lot of student seminars, and one was on musical settings of Heine's poetry. I felt quite pleased with myself for understanding most of the musical terminology. In German, no less. I'm quite alarmed with the fact that I'm starting to find "old" music interesting. The other seminar included discussion of the etymology of the word Märchen, which is always a good start.

*Starts album again* I love the way the Brits say "whilst" rather than "while". Yes, gross ignorant generalisation probably, slap me please.

Teh Meme:
Ganked from [info]shoeless_girl:

Once you've been tagged, you have to write a blog entry with five complete lies about yourself. That is, five things about you that are completely not true. Not even slightly. THEN hide in the entry a 6th line, something that is absolutely TRUE and the 1st person to guess which one is true wins :) then tag up to five people you want to turn into compulsive liars too.

1. I have a hitcher's thumb.
2. I have double-jointed toes.
3. I'm going to have cheese on toast for lunch.
4. According to the tests I've taken, my IQ is in the 160-170 range.
5. I've still got the curtains from my last flat in Dunedin.
6. My younger sister is taller than I am.

I may write a proper entry one of these days. Salient points, however:

1. My 300-level German culture and society paper is being taught entirely in German! The lecturer threw in a joke on Tuesday and only two people laughed. The chick next to me was taking notes in English. Doesn't that sound like a waste of brainergy?

2. [info]cactus_cat and [info]amarynth are adorable.

3. Meme about fandom
Caught from [info]trixieleitz:

1. Comment on this entry and I'll tell you what fandom I associate you with.

2. Put this in your own journal so I can see what fandom you associate with me but only if you want to.
